Did you know that PAC has this unique space to work out? The spectator area above the competition pool is a great place for a workout for many reason!

  1. The Stairs - Stairs are a great way to add intensity to any workout! Stairs combine muscular conditioning with cardio in a very effective way. Add a set of stairs between your regular strength sets for a burst of high intensity training. Click here for great article on the benefits of stair workouts, as well as some workout ideas.

  2. The Equipment - We have several different pieces of equipment you can use in the spectator area. There is a heavy punching bag and gloves, a pull up bar, mats, heavy ropes, access to TRX straps and TRX Rip Trainers, and you can bring dumbbells into the spectator area for your workout as well. Please ask PAC staff to assist you in getting any of this equipment that you might be interested in using! If no one is at the desk in the fitness area, ask Guest Services and they will locate someone to help.

  3. The Heat - Do you have an event you’re training for in a warmer, more humid environment than Pinedale? The spectator ares is a great place to train for that environment since it is much warmer and more humid due to the pool below. Also, studies show that exercising in a warmer environment expends more energy as your body has to work harder to cool you down. Remember, if you choose to workout in the spectator area please do so safely! Dress appropriately for the warmer environment, stay hydrated, make sure to rest as needed, and take a nice cool down around the track after your workout.

  4. The Change - Any time we vary our normal fitness routine we benefit! There are two main benefits we see. 1) it prevents boredom that comes with doing the same thing workout after workout and 2) it helps delay reaching a plateau in workout performance and training results. “Exercise scientists at the University of Florida observed that individuals who modified their workouts every two weeks over an eight-week period appeared to enjoy their workouts more and were more inclined to stick with their exercise programs when compared to individuals who followed the same workout regimens week after week. Varying your exercise routine can also help you stay physically challenged.” (ACE Fitness)

So, next time you come to PAC for a workout and you’re not sure what to do, head to the spectator area for a change of pace!
